Battle for the Backfield Going Nowhere
Randy King of the Roanoke Times has an article in today’s paper about the runningback competition for the Virginia Tech Hokies … or rather the lackthereof. According to the article (read it here), RB coach Billy Hite was “red-faced” when talking about yesterday’s practice.
“I found out nothing,” Hite said. “Your guess is as good as mine right now. The position is wide open to me. Now we’re going to have to go through another scrimmage [Saturday] before they’re going to make a decision or I’m going to make a decision. I’m hoping they make a decision.”
This is not the kind of progress Hokie fans were hoping to see from the fall practice sessions. Neither the QB or the RB situations have worked themselves out yet and the season is less than three weeks away. We’ll keep everyone posted on the news and notes.

Two QBs will be playing this year, Gary. In a perfect world, the coaching staff would like Tyrod to pull away and be the starter… right? Our team would be crazy good with him having a year under his belt.

Not time to panic. As an old college center, I know it takes the offense longer than the defense to develop. They have been practicing barely more than a week. This offense is going to be fine because the offensive line is the best in years.
