WR Zach Luckett Suspended Indefinitely for Alleged DUI

The one position that Virginia Tech could ill afford to suffer any more losses at was wide receiver. In today’s Roanoke Times, we learn that projected starting WR Zach Lucket, a redshirt sophomore, has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Frank Beamer.

The suspension stems from a recent arrest for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI). The Hokies lost four of the programs most talented receivers from last season’s team, leaving a huge void at the wideout position. Then earlier this summer, the team’s fastest player and projected starter Brandon Dillard tore his Achilles tendon and is out for the year. That meant the offense was counting on Luckett to step up and instead, he put himself before the team and made a stupid decision that is costing his team.

A big round of applause to Beamer for suspending Luckett without hesistation, or so it would appear. I know it couldn’t have been an easy decision and we know the Bobby “Deddy” Bowden likely wouldn’t have done the same thing under similar circumstances.

It now appears that Hokie fans could potentially see three freshmen playing receiver this season. The front-runners appear to be Dyrell Roberts, Danny Coale and Xavier Boyce. Also expected to see playing time are converted QBs Cory Holt and Ike Whitaker.
