Getting Through a Football-less Summer

Okay Hokie fans, it’s time for a deep breath as we head into summer. Football season is more than three months away (yay!) but we’ve managed to keep ourselves occupied this off season with national signing day, spring practice and the NFL draft. We’ve also had quite a few verbal commitments for the 2010 recruiting class. Safe to say that Virginia Tech football is now in cruise control. So, what do we do until fall practice (which actually takes place in the dead of summer)? One word … GOLF!

I don’t know about you guys, but I like to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and if you like to golf, I strongly recommend Myrtle Beach golf vacations! Myrtle Beach is the golfing capital of the east coast! Every summer since 2003 I have made an annual pilgrimage to this golfing mecca and each summer I drool over the seemingly endless choices of golf course on which to play. And when I say “play” I mean “tear up.” I may not be very good at golf, but I’ve pretty much perfected the sand wedge and I can blast a golf ball out of six inches of rough like no one else on the PGA tour.

The great thing about having so many golf courses from which to choose is that the green fees are very competitive! And there are plenty of deals, discounts and packages out there from which to choose – all you have to do is Google (officially a verb) Myrtle Beach golf package and you’ll see an endless stream of options! So, instead of sitting around your house all summer with the air conditioning on full blast and watching your old worn out VHS tape of the No. 4 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies’ 62-0 beatdown of the trash-talking No. 16 ranked Syracuse Orangemen (at the time they were the Orangemen, not the Orange … that’s stupid) – get off your butt, get online and look for golf packages in Myrtle Beach, book it and go get your golf on!

Oh, and don’t forget the GPS locator so you don’t get lost in the woods looking for ball! Lastly, I can’t think of golf without thinking of the best golf movie of all time, Caddyshack and the best golfer of all time, Tigerwoods… enjoy!
