Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer will appear on The Dan Rather Report tonight at 8 p.m. on HDNET. The subject of the story will be decorated Army veteran Daniel Rodriguez, who is back stateside after two years of combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and wants to follow through on his dream of playing college football.

He expressed interest in playing for the Hokies, and while NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from talking specifically about Daniel, Coach Beamer is quoted as saying:

Over the years, I think we’ve been a team that hasn’t always gone on how big are you or how fast are you. It’s how you play the game. … And with that in mind, I think it’s likely that I’d give an under-sized, over-the-age, Army guy a chance.
