Apparently Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris is a big Virginia Tech Hokie fan, or at least a fan of the talent that comes out of Blacksburg.
Morris and the Bucs selected two former Hokies in last week’s 2010 NFL Draft: punter Brent Bowden with the 3rd pick in the 6th round and linebacker Cody Grimm with the 3rd pick in the seventy and final round. The following day, the Bucs signed undrafted rookie offensive lineman Sergio Render to a free agent deal.
Then, earlier this week, the Bucs signed defensive end Nekos Brown and tight end Greg Boone to rookie free agent deals.
But Tampa Bay isn’t the only NFL team that seems to think Frank Beamer is turning out NFL-caliber players. The Pittsburgh Steelers, after drafting defensive end Jason Worilds in the second round, signed defensive tackle Cordarrow Thompson following the draft and then earlier this week added Thompson’s defensive line mate Demetrius Taylor to their roster.
The Bucs, Steelers and the Buffalo Bills, who drafted Ed Wang and signed Stephan Virgil, will all enter the 2010 training camp season with at least three former Virginia Tech Hokies on their rosters. The Bills already have defensive end Chris Ellis, who was drafted in 2008.

Virginia Tech flanker and kick returner Dyrell Roberts is listed as “probable” for the Hokies’ game against Duke.
As the No. 6 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies prepare to play their first Atlantic Coast Conference road game of the season against Duke, head coach Frank Beamer is probably hoping to give some of his key players a chance to heal.
The weekly ACC injury report was released earlier today and the Hokies have four big names that could use a game off.
Offensive tackle Blake DeChristopher (ankle), rover Davon Morgan (shoulder), flanker Dyrell Roberts (hamstring) and defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor (calf) are all listed as “probable” for Saturday’s game against the Blue Devils. However, unless Tech comes out and struggles, don’t expect these guys to see much action.
For starters, the Hokies want to rest these guys and have them ready for some of the tougher games down the road. Secondly, Beamer is always looking to get his second team as much playing time as possible.
DeChristopher was the ACC’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week after leading Tech’s running attack to a dominating performance against then-No. 9 Miami.
