Three Hokies selected in 2012 NFL Draft; undrafted players expect to sign
On the first day of the 2012 NFL Draft, the defending Super Bowl champs, the New York Giants, made Virginia Tech running back David Wilson the first Hokie taken in the opening round since Duane Brown in 2008.
On the final day of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Hokies wide receiver (and sometimes punter) Danny Coale with the 17th pick in the fifth round, making Coale the first Tech wide receiver drafted since 2008 when Eddie Royal, Justin Harper and Josh Morgan were all chosen.
Coale joined teammates Wilson and cornerback Jayron Hosley as the only three Virginia Tech players drafted. Hosley was taken in the third round by the Giants and will play alongside Wilson. All three Tech draftees went to NFC East teams.
It wasn’t the New York Giants, but an NFC East team nabbed the third Virginia Tech player off the NFL draft board Saturday when wide receiver Danny Coale was selected in the fifth round, No. 152 overall, by the Dallas Cowboys.
All three Hokies players drafted have gone to NFC East teams….
I’m shocked that Jarrett Boykin wasnt drafted. He was rated higher than Coale and seems to be your more prototypical NFL receiver, but the knock on him was his lack of speed and ability to separate. He’ll get invited, no doubt..
